“Vigils of Light” – a musical performance by I AM SORRY DAVE as part of WGW 2026 - Event_Straznicy_swiatla
Join us for the musical performance “Vigils of Light” by I AM SORRY DAVE (Kuba Słomkowski) and Gilbert Bautista Ortiz, introduced by Michał Siarek. The performance explores the themes of physics and the metaphor of light, people and technology.
Michał Siarek’s photographic project stems from his experiences at a lighthouse in the Far North—the observed rhythm of light, optics, and the practice of keeping watch. With the automation of lighthouses, the question of who guards the light and ensures safety, whether human or machine, takes on a new meaning. This theme is addressed in a site-specific performance by Kuba Słomkowski, expanding his project I AM SORRY DAVE, with a guest appearance by violist Gilbert Bautista Ortiz. The reference to HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey introduces the perspective of technology that sees, communicates, and makes decisions.
The performance “Guardians of Light” (Strażnicy światła) weaves together themes of the physics and metaphor of light, humanity, and automating technology. Electronics, voice, and acoustic viola come together in the exhibition space, transforming music into a tool for interpreting photography. This expands the exhibition experience through sound, rhythm, and performance, opening it up to audiences interested in experimental music, film, and audiovisual culture.

His first project combining visual arts and music was Program Music Box—a work recognized in the Samsung Art Master 2009 competition and exhibited as one of the winning pieces at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.
He is a member of the NZTB Association, served on the Programming Board of the ArtWalk Gallery from 2018 to 2025, and belongs to the informal artistic collectives Time New Roman and FreeBloopGroup.
