Cardiff is 1,883 kilometres from Warsaw, whereas Donetsk – 1,508 kilometres from Warsaw. We are located roughly in the middle. If we look to the west, we’ll see the European Union in crisis. If we look to the east, we’ll see the annexed Crimea, the war in eastern Ukraine and the policy of Russia.
Here, we bring together two photographic projects: Daring & Youth by Yulia Krivich and Go home, Polish by Michał Iwanowski (premiere). These two artists in various ways touch on the subject of “Europe turning right” – the aggravation of nationalist, xenophobic and racist movements.
These projects do not address the subjects of war, nationality and borders directly. They are more than statements about the image, identity, social media and modern migration – however, all of the above topics and concepts are present in the space between these two personal projects juxtaposed in one gallery, located between the East and the West of Europe.

About the artists
Yulia Krivich
A Ukrainian living in Poland, for three years has observed and documented the everyday life of extreme-right Ukraine gang gathering young veterans of the War in Donbass. Some of its members are currently engaged in political activities. The project was presented in Ukraine, Poland and Italy – each time it met with a different, sometimes unexpected reception.
Michał Iwanowski
A Pole who has lived in Wales for many years, fulfilled the postulate of an anonymous graffiti that he saw in Cardiff, which called: “Go home, Polish”. He travelled on foot to southern Poland, where his parents still live, asking the people he met on the way: “Where is home?”.
